IHRIM was established in 1948, primarily as an educational body. Its objectives, then as now, were to provide qualifications at different levels, as well as career and professional assistance for members working in the field of health records, information, clinical coding and related professions. The Institute offers support for students studying for professional qualifications and it provides the routes to qualification at a number of levels by way of an examination at Certificate level, the National Clinical Coding Qualification (UK), the Diploma Award Scheme and the Certificate of Technical Competence in Health Records Practice at Basic and Supervisory levels. | Membership of a recognised professional body can enhance and promote both personal and professional development through its qualification structure together with peer group association and networking opportunities such as the annual national conference. The Institute can provide a lobby voice at government level on topics of interest and concern to the profession. Find out how to join. IHRIM is an international, as well as national, organisation with members in many different countries around the world. Many of these members choose to study for the Institute’s professional qualifications. IHRIM is also a founder member of IFHRO (The International Federation of Health Records Organisations) and The UK IFHRO Director serves on the General Assembly of the Federation. | |
